Couples counseling of a psychologist, if the partner (or both) is in military service

Currently, every family in Ukraine is experiencing long-term stress due to the invasion of the enemy. But those couples where one or both partners stood up for the protection of state borders feel a significantly greater burden:
- long separations;
– increased risk to health and life;
– communication difficulties;
- changes in the financial situation.
In short, there are many problems and challenges that people face for the first time, and there is no one to ask for advice.
That is why the YARMIZ Center employs specialists qualified in this type of psychological counseling - specialized assistance to couples with military personnel.
Classical couple therapy does not work here. A specialist should understand the specifics of the service, to navigate in military realities, to have appropriate evidence-based methods and experience in order to really help.
It is clear that it is not always easy to organize the process from the technical side. All participants of the consultation must be in touch, and for this it is necessary to coordinate the service schedules, taking into account the fact that everything can be changed at the last moment. But the Center's employees are ready for such challenges.

At the initial consultation the couple gets to know the psychologist, outlines their expectations from these meetings and finds out the specialist's work methods.
If you are confused by the changes in the relationship, but you can't clearly articulate the problem, that's okay too. A specialist will help isolate the essence of the issue and direct the efforts of your small team to fight this trouble.

In our experience, most often couples make such requests:
- Deterioration of the quality of communication. Due to the distance, communication problems, new living conditions and emotional tension, small misunderstandings arise, but when they accumulate, they eventually lead to conflicts.
– Constant background anxiety, which eats up the resource, makes partners tense and impatient.
- Life after returning from service: it will not be like before, and how it will be in a new way - it is not yet clear.
- Issues related to everyday life, finances, communication with relatives, raising children and so on.

After detection practical work begins with the "enemy". These can be:
🟢 exercises to improve communication (how to "hear" a partner, how to open up, how to speak in "I-messages", etc.);
🟢 emotional regulation (how to master strong feelings and not allow them to destroy either relationships or yourself; how to ecologically live difficult emotions without suppressing them; how to get rid of blocked anger, shame, sorrow and fear and clear the way for love and gratitude);
🟢 cognitive-behavioral therapy (how to put your thoughts, feelings, reactions and behavior on the shelves, how to develop the skill of managing your behavior during an emotional storm).
