The project was supported by the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine and the International Renaissance Foundation.

The total project budget is UAH 398,915.

Purpose of the Project: The aim of the project is to improve the intercultural competencies of veterans through the promotion of lifelong learning of European languages and cultures by establishing the Veterans Language Center «Dialogue» as a center for the presentation of European cultures.

Project objectives include:

  • ● improving the psycho-emotional state of veterans;
  • ● introduction of fashion for lifelong learning through the creation of space for the study of languages, cultures, history of European peoples. Innovative methods of learning foreign languages karaoke-chant;
  • ● promoting cohesion between veterans and society and intercultural understanding, public demonstration of the importance of the role of the veterans' community on the way of European integration of Ukraine through the launch of the Veterans Festival.

The project was successful, the results were achieved completely and quantitatively exceeded.

32 Elementary (A1) English courses were completed and successfully passed by 10 veterans and family members. 32 заняття курсу англійської мови  Elementary (A1) пройшли та успішно засвоїли.

Ukrainian language course (32 lessons) 14 veterans and family members successfully completed the Ukrainian language course (32 lessons) against the expected number of 12 people.

A series of karaoke-chant classes (32 classes) A series of karaoke-chant classes (32 classes) and vocal and rhythmics classes (32 classes) were attended by 25 veterans and family members against the expected 25 people.

6 lectures on European ethnology A total of 96 veterans and family members attended the 6 lectures on European ethnology against the expected 30. An additional audience was added to the lectures by organizing online broadcasts of lectures «The current state of the Ukrainian language» and «Vasyl Vyshyvany – Austrian Archduke, Colonel of Ukrainian Sich Riflemen».

September 26, 2021 The First Veteran Festival «Flower YARMIZ» took place, which attracted 73 participants against the planned 50 persons., який залучив до участі 73 учасника проти запланованих 50.

 

The fair was attended by 13 veteran businesses:

- Publishing House «Squirrel»specializes in publishing military literature, memoirs, adventure literature, modern Ukrainian prose and poetry. Owners – married couple Pankov Serhiy and Iryna Bilotserkovska – veteran and volunteer; – ветеран та волонтерка;

- Olexiy Bumagin – jewelry. Works to order and makes jewelry from precious metals and stones. Additionally creates various leather accessories (watches, notebooks).

At the exhibition of veteran artists' paintings the guests of the Festival had the opportunity to enjoy the works of our talented defenders Galina Sernivka, Dana Vinogradova and Tamara Dovgych..

6 master classes on crafts were held against the planned three:

- master class on wickerwork was conducted by veteran Yevhen Kosyanenko; Євген Косяненко;

- master class on weaving by Valentina Tkach, hereditary carpet weaver in the third generation from the town of Boguslav;

- master class on Petrykivka painting by hereditary master Olesya Zhuma;

- Easter painting master class by senior master, guardian of Easter painting Mrs. Tamara Glushanok;

- clay modeling master class by Svetlana Romanchafolk master from Chyhyryn region;

- master class on mandala weaving by volunteer Nadiya Suhar..

In addition the Halabuda space from the partners of the veteran-volunteer theater Project W Veterans, Volunteers and William;

A master class on foreign languages learning by innovative methods of karaoke-chant worked all day long. Guests had the opportunity to sing songs in English, Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar by song catalogs.

Speakers at the festival opening: Eugenia Gubska, Director of the YARMIZ Center, Olga Galchenko, Coordinator of the Human Rights and Justice Program of the International Renaissance Foundation, Olga Galchenko, Representative of the Ministry of Veterans' Affairs of Ukraine Secretariat of the Society for Relations with Ukrainians Outside Ukraine «Ukraine-World» Kendzera Alla Yevheniivna; the veteran ensemble YARMIZ and representatives of Ukrainian diasporas from Poland, Turkey, Latvia, Spain, Estonia took part in the singing teleconference; 10 veterans and family members took part in a demonstration of traditional Ukrainian costumes from the private collection of Valeria Levkivska, a member of the Secretariat of the Society for Relations with Ukrainians Abroad Ukraine-World, head of the Ethnosection, ethnographer and masters of authentic Ukrainian hats.

 

The festival guests tasted traditional Ukrainian, Georgian and Crimean Tatar cuisines. They not only tasted buckwheat porridge, but also joined cooking at master class by Elena Shcherban – Doctor of History, ethnologist, leading popularizer of Ukrainian traditional food culture, founders of the EthnoEducational Center – EthnoFamilyTrimuseum "Lyalina Svitlytsia" in Opishnya, Poltava region. Guests also participated in cooking cookies decorated with Ukrainian ornaments.

Participants of the final concert: Yarmiz veteran’s ensemble, Honored Artist of Ukraine veteran Tetyana Kyslyak, vocal and choreographic ensemble of the Crimean Tatar Cultural Center «Crimean Family», Khrystyna Panasyuk – singer, volunteer, Danytsia Bonostyova Veteran Ensemble «Kobzar», Dmytro Linartovych – singer, bard, volunteer, Anjo da muzica (Victoria Zadvorna) – winner of international competitions, concert vocalist, soloist of theaters: teatro Bradesko, teatro Pedro 2, Teatro Munizipal Francalo, Solo ), «Krutyi Zamis» – a band from the Cold Yar, Cossack folk-rock, Anna Mak – rock and original songs singer.

A video about the Festival was created, as well as 6 interviews about the participants and their businesses.

The project was covered on the Facebook and Instagram pages of the YARMIZ Center, the YARMIZ Center website and a separate Facebook page of the Dialog Language Center. They were involved in media, radio and television coverage.

A Saturday karaoke club for veteran families created by the Project is in great demand.

The YARMIZ Flower Festival is planned to become a traditional cultural event, which aims to unite the veteran community, civil society and organizations, acquaint with the history, traditions of different cultures, find and promote common values such as human rights, gender equality, European integration, quality education, environmental sustainability.

The festival was attended by 380 guests, including representatives of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine, Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, Deputy Head of Pechersk District State Administration in Kyiv Nevmezhytsky Anatoliy, Head of Culture Department of Pechersk District Council in Kyiv State Administration Marynych Diana, representatives Public Union «All-Ukrainian League of Organizations of Persons with Disabilities» «MODERN VIEW».

The guests left a lot of positive feedback and showed readiness to get involved in joint events in the future.

The long-term results of the veteran language center «Dialogue» we see the introduction of fashion for lifelong learning among the target audience of the project. Studying the languages, traditions, and histories of different peoples will improve the intercultural competencies of the center's visitors.

The experience gained from involving the public in charitable support of the project will be used to further fund the activities of the veterans' language center.

Involving representatives of various educational and cultural institutions and partner NGOs in teaching educational courses, art master classes, the Dialogue Center unites the experience and knowledge of the best specialists in various fields in creating non-formal education programs and disseminating experience to other similar centers and regions. Innovative methods of learning languages karaoke-chant will be replicated in other institutions.

The festival will be a traditional annual demonstration of the role of the veterans' community in promoting pro-European values and principles in Ukrainian society, will promote culture, crafts, traditions and support the cultural heritage of each nation, build bridges of understanding between different segments of society.

Many visitors to the Dialogue Center and the YARMIZ Flower Festival are currently defending Ukraine from the aggressor. They send us memories of the emotional moments of the project and know that they are always supported, helped and waited for in the place they loved and created together with the team of the YARMIZ Center.
